GMS Media Center: Book Wars

INFORMATION

What is Book Wars?check box

Book Wars is a dynamic program that combines a book discussion club with an exciting trivia competition. It offers an excellent opportunity for MCPS middle school students to not only indulge in their love for reading but also engage in a competition that fosters teamwork and sportsmanship. The program is entirely voluntary and convenes twice a month in the Media Center for book discussions and team-building activities. Throughout the year, we'll be gearing up for the highly anticipated Book Wars competition, a thrilling trivia tournament where we'll put our skills to the test against other MCPS middle schools. Working in teams, we'll prepare diligently for the grand event on Book Wars Competition Day, set to take place in the spring.

Program Information:

  • Team members will embark on a journey to read 20 books in a year. We'll meet bi-weekly to discuss, collaborate, and most importantly, have a blast! While we're eager to compete with our friends at Redland, Shady Grove, and Forest Oak Middle Schools, our primary focus is on team building, nurturing creativity, and celebrating our love for reading.

  • Team members will need to commit to reading the same ten books, as well as one or two series. You'll be tasked with creating and submitting practice trivia questions, along with your favorite quotes.

  • Our book selections span across various genres and feature a diverse cast of characters. Rest assured, all titles are readily available for borrowing from our school's library, accessible in various formats including Sora eBooks, audiobooks, and in print.
