Meet Your Library Media Family

Ms. Nelson

Media Specialist

Life and work experiences have taught me the importance of leading by example and trusting in one’s dreams. I am a first-generation Cuban/Salvadoran-American, born and raised in Wheaton, Maryland. I moved to the Damascus area 20 years ago. I have two boys, 19 and 24. When I have spare time, I enjoy taking day trips with the family, exploring the beauty of Maryland, and photographing the landscapes. I also love reading books and listen to audiobooks while commuting to work.

I chose to pursue my graduate degree in Library Information Science at UMD with a School Library Media specialization to solidify my educational background in library and information sciences. My vision is to promote educational support for all students while at school and home, to instill an awareness of the digital divide, foster digital citizenship, and implement change to ensure that all students have access to valuable digital and non-digital resources.

My most recent reads:

  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

  • The Unwanted Stories of the Syrian Refugees
